I put together this short list for my documentary and experimental video students. It’s a list of smaller movie theaters in New York City where you can see documentary, experimental and independent film and video or other innovative film programming. For the most part, it doesn’t list festivals. I’m sure it’s not exhaustive, so feel free to add other theaters/spaces you know in the comments.

Tomorrow I will be finishing my semester-long program with kids at the PS 16 YMCA After School in South Williamsburg. We explored our neighborhood through technology and made a website. Pretty exciting for fourth and fifth grade! If you’d like to check our out site, where you can see our pictures and hear our podcast, go here. We have a video as well, but I’m waiting to hear if we can post it online, because the kids star in it.

We called our project O.N.E. Williamsburg, for “Our Neighborhood Explored.” Please feel free to leave (kid-appropriate) comments!

Rutgers-Newark wrap-up

I finished my teaching position at Rutgers-Newark yesterday. It is a bitter-sweet ending as I truly enjoyed the students and the teaching, but I’m looking forward to re-focusing on my own work. The classes (Intro to Media and Convergence, based on Henry Jenkins‘ book) were interesting and it was great working with Leo Aristimuño from the Media Studies program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

The student paper did a short profile on me. Enjoy!
